Stevo U. GATALO
STEVAN STEVO GATALO, son of UROŠ, born on April 28, 1921, in Potoci, Mostar, farmer, member of the League of Communist Youth (SKOJ) since 1941 and Communist Party of Yugoslavia (KPJ) since 1942, in the Battalion since October 1941, fighter of the Zijemaljska Squad, killed in Potoci near Mostar on May 18, 1942.
Circumstances of Stevo’s death, as recorded:
“Stevo Gatalo, a fighter of the Zijemaljska Squad, a peasant from Potoci, volunteered to kill the Ustasha Ivan Doko in Bijelo Polje. On April 18, Gatalo waited for Doko and disarmed him, but when they started moving, Doko took Stevo’s rifle and killed him. As an act of revenge, the Ustasha killed Stevo’s father Uroš on the same day.”
