Photograph of the deceased SKOJ member Salko Šestić (January 1943)

One of the most poignant photographs of wartime Mostar is the famous image of the remains of the slain Salke Šestić, the youth leader of the city, in the mortuary of Mostar Hospital. The local committee of the Mostar SKOJ decided to capture this image as evidence. Although the author Mensur Seferović claimed that the task was entrusted to the young photographer Salko Milavić, he could not have done it as he was actually in one of the Italian camps at the time. According to the Šestić family, the picture was taken by his brother Car Milavić and Rifat Pavlović. The hospital attendant in the photo is Ćamil Delić, who, like Salko, also lost his life during the war. Read about these two fallen fighters from Mostar.
