Nijaz H. ŠARIĆ
NIJAZAH NIJAZ NIZA ŠARIĆ, son of HUSEIN, born on November 10, 1909, in Mostar, locksmith. Head of the League of Communist Youth (SKOJ) cell in Mostar in 1927, member of the Communist Party of Yugoslavia (KPJ) since 1928, and secretary of the CPY cell. Arrested and tried under the Law on the Protection of the State of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia in 1929, 1932, and 1937, serving his sentence in Belgrade, Mitrovica, and Zenica. A veteran fighter, joined the Battalion in September 1941, became a squad commander, and a member of the party bureau of the detachment. During the Fourth Offensive, he had around 300 fighters, and on March 15, 1943, the detachment was disbanded, and the fighters were distributed to the units of the Tenth Herzegovinian and Fifth Montenegrin Brigades. He died in the Sutjeska region as part of the Fifth Montenegrin Brigade during the breakthrough from Zelengora near the village of Rataj on June 13, 1943. Described as “firm in his convictions, defiant.”
Three of his brothers also lost their lives in the National Liberation War: Džemšid Šarić, Ismet Šarić and Hidajet Šarić. A street in Mostar is named after the Šarić brothers.
