Osman M. ČOPELJ
OSMAN (MURATA) ČOPELJ (1922-1946), born in Nevesinje in 1922 in a family with seven children. Lived in Mostar. A fighter, who died in 1946 on the Vran mountain.
According to the testimony of the family, Osman was a confirmed and was decorated with an order. Osman’s mother Fata (Fatima) had a veteran’s pension during her life, based on his contribution to the liberation movement. Unfortunately, during the 1992-1995 war, all documentation burned in the house where the mother lived. Also, Fata had to throw away his gun in 1992. There was a picture of Osman in the partisan uniform in the house.
Osman was buried in the Šarića cemetery in Mostar. The family remembers that his memorial plaque was located on the Partisan Memorial Cemetery, on the uppermost terrace, on the left side, until 1993. After the war, family members visited the monument, but they could not find the plaque, and it was never installed again.
