Mehmed D. ZALIHIĆ
MEHMED D. ZALIHlĆ, born in 1898* in Mostar, a blacksmith, lived and worked in Mostar. A pre-war activist of the workers’ movement. During the war, groups of people gathered at his house, which went out to the liberated territory and joined the partisan military units. He fought in the Battalion from March 1942 and was killed in Bijela near Konjic in June 1942. He was one of the 16 fighters who were killed during the breakout from the school in Bijela. In the same battle, the following were killed: Stjepan Šulentić Šule – a student from Mostar, Harno Taslaman – a worker from Mostar, Sulejman Cilić – a student from Jablanica, Togo Finci – a student from Sarajevo, Kabiljo Montiljo – a student from Sarajevo, Ranko Kosjerina – a worker from Mostar, Hivza Brkić – a student from Mostar, Remzo Ćišić – a worker from Mostar, Avdo Bošnjak – a worker from Mostar, Milan Ivetić – a worker from Mostar, Muhamed Šapuh – a worker from Mostar, Avdo Vejzović – a worker from Mostar, Muhamed Zalihić – a worker from Mostar, Ahmet Grčić – a student from Konjic, Mujo Hubana – a farmer from Bijelo Polje near Mostar, Ibro Dizdarević – a worker from Mostar, Avdo Duranović (mentioned by Vukosav Rade), Sulejman Leho – captured and killed in a concentration camp in 1942.
