Mehmed M. PALA
MEHMED “MEHA” PALA, son of MUSTAFA, born on April 29, 1921, in Mostar, a butcher, member of SKOJ (Communist Youth Union of Yugoslavia) since 1941. Joined the Battalion in December 1941 as a fighter. Survived the Fifth Offensive at Sutjeska and was part of a group of 80 fighters who came to Mostar for recovery. Captured by the Germans during a raid in Mostar in July 1943 due to the betrayal of a demoralized fighter. Executed in Ovojci near Mostar.
Regarding Pala’s arrest, Mensur Seferović, “Partisan Chronicles” wrote:
“That morning, behind the barbed wire, not far from the tobacco factory, there were over a thousand and a half men gathered. Heavy machine guns on trucks guarded the perimeter. In the middle of the wide circle stood a senior officer, next to him an agent and… Husković. Frightened, almost bewildered, Husković walked step by step in front of the prisoners, looking at each one in the formation and, without a word, pointing his finger at his victims. The prisoner towards whom his hand extended came out to the center of the circle, and soon, after Husković’s first traitorous move, about thirty prisoners were there, including people with whom Husković himself had hidden and fed. He also brought out Smajo Jug and Meho Pala, comrades with whom he fought in the fifth offensive (…)”
