Mustafa I. HUSKOVIĆ
MUSTAFA MUJO HUSKOVIĆ, son of IBRO also known as KARO, was born in 1913* in Rotimlja near Stolac*. He was educated, worked, and lived in Mostar. He was a tailor, a member of the Communist Party of Yugoslavia (KPJ) since 1938, secretary of the Communist Youth League (SKOJ) for Mostar in 1940, and a member of the Communist Party of Yugoslavia (KPJ) for Mostar. He was a functionary of FC “Velež.” He left Mostar in July 1941 for eastern Herzegovina to organize the uprising. He was present at the meeting on July 31, 1941, at the Vuković family’s house in Donja Mahala, during which Zlatka Vuković threw the first bomb at the Ustaše in Mostar. Mustafa and Mahmud Đikić managed to escape on that occasion. The Regional Committee of the Communist Party of Yugoslavia (KPJ) soon sent Mustafa and Mahmud as couriers to eastern Herzegovina to establish contact with the insurgents. However, both of them were killed near Nevesinje at the very beginning due to a misunderstanding, as the locals believed they were spies. We learn from one source that “the Nevesinje insurgent leadership assigned a five-member escort that was tasked with escorting Mustafa safely to Lukavac towards Mostar. The escort committed a heinous crime for which three of its members were sentenced to death.”
A great love had blossomed between Mustafa and Sidika Dika Hadžić from Carina. After his death, it was noted that “Dika worked (for the movement, ed.) even more devotedly.”
Described in the literature as “a well-known illegal worker from Mostar”, “a consistent interpreter of his Party’s ideas, a fighter for brotherhood and unity”.
