Živko S. ŠKORO
ŽIVKO ŠKORO, son of SIMO, born on March 24, 1920, in Mostar. Student. Member of the Communist Youth League (SKOJ) since 1940. Arrested by the Ustaše in July 1941 in Mostar, taken away, and killed.
The following paragraph from Mensur Seferović’s book could refer to Živko Škoro, who was killed in Mostar:
“And in the neighboring room, a gunshot echoed, there was commotion, and later we learned that they had killed someone named Škoro. The Ustaše found Stalin’s badge under the lapel of his jacket, and when they asked him whose it was, he replied that it was his ‘chauffeur,’ and when asked which chauffeur, he added, ‘The one who controls the whole world!’ And that’s why they immediately shot him. This was told to us by Ustaša Pero Brkić, who, along with other Ustaše, guarded us constantly, pointing their guns through the small windows of the garages. The next day, on Vidovdan, the army took over power from the Ustaše, and in the morning, after three days spent in horrifying conditions of fear, thirst, and hunger, we were released and allowed to go home.”
Živko’s name was recorded on the memorial plaque at the Mostar Gymnasium. The plaque disappeared without a trace during the war events of 1992-1995.
Mostar and Belgrade painter and poet Svetislav Mandić (Mostar, 08.03.1921 – Belgrade, 04.10.2003) dedicated his poem “Onaj sudnji dan” (The Doomsday) to his friends who were killed and died during their school days, including Živko.
