Vasilije D. BALORDA
VASILIJE VASKO BALORDA, son of DUŠAN, born on May 12, 1923, in Mostar, the younger brother of the national hero Mladen Balorda. A member of the League of Communist Youth (SKOJ) since 1940. When the Ustashe came to power in Mostar and started arresting Serbs, Dušan Balorda and his sons, Mladen and Vasilije, received German passes for Serbia and escaped to Belgrade. Mladen soon returned to Mostar, while Vasilije, when the family reunited, moved with everyone to Kraljevo. He became a student at the Gymnasium in Kraljevo, working physical jobs with his father to support the family. In October 1941, the Germans established a formula of reprisal (100 Serbs for one killed German and 50 for one wounded). After a joint partisan-Chetnik action in which 10 German soldiers were killed and 14 wounded, the occupiers conducted a raid on about 2,000 citizens, mostly men and students, who were mass executed between October 10th and 15th, 1941. Vasilije was one of the 11 Mostar residents shot in Kraljevo.
Vasilije’s name was recorded on a memorial plaque at Mostar Gymnasium after the war. The plaque disappeared without a trace during the events of the war in 1992-1995.
