Tomo V. MEDAN
TOMO MEDAN, son of VOJISLAV, born on December 14, 1925, in Ortiješ near Mostar. Farmer. Joined the National Liberation Army and Partisan Detachments in August 1944, in the 1st (Mostar) Battalion of the 13th Herzegovina Brigade. Fighter, killed in the village of Pijesci near Mostar on October 30, 1944, during the offensive towards Mostar.
“The enemy positions in Pijesci, along the road to Mostar, where Italian soldiers and Ustaše previously cut down the forest and created a clear area, later fortified by German soldiers and Ustaše with barbed wire and landmines, were attacked by the 1st and 2nd battalions. However, despite capturing advanced positions, they were repelled and pushed back to their starting positions. They were also repelled the following night (October 30). Along with several wounded, the fighters Mirko Kojović (Čičevo, Trebinje), Filip Medić (Ljubuški), Tomo Medan (born in Pijesci), and three Poles – Joži Jendiščak (from Warsaw), Ježi Jenžeičak (from Łódź), and Joži (Ivana) Janiždenski – were killed in the battles in Pijesci and were buried by the roadside where they fell.”
