Sulejman I. ALENDAR
SULEJMAN ALENDAR, son of IBRAHIM, born on November 1, 1911, in Ljubuški, lived in Mostar. Driver. Activist of the People’s Liberation Movement (NOP) in Mostar. Arrested by the Ustaše on February 12, 1945, and taken to Sarajevo, where he was killed on March 28, 1945.
After a failed assassination attempt on the Croatian Ustaše official Maks Luburić in early March 1945, Luburić took over the judiciary in Sarajevo and formed his own Court Martial. As per this Court Martial, through the Decisions UKP number 1/45 and UKP number 2/45, published in the last issue of the Ustaše newspaper “Novi list” on April 3, 1945, dozens of people were sentenced to death. In the early morning of March 28, 1945, seven days before the liberation of the city, the Ustaše publicly hanged 56 people at Marindvor, and more bodies were found in the Luburić’s villa that could not be identified due to the mutilation of the remains. Sulejman Alendar was listed as number 8 on Luburić’s list of convicted individuals.
