Neda N. ŠIMIĆ
NEDELJKA NEDA ŠIMIĆ, daughter of NIKOLA, born on January 18, 1925,* in Mostar, a worker at the Tobacco Factory. A member of the League of Communist Youth (SKOJ) since 1941, in the Battalion from the beginning of 1942, a fighter and nurse. She was killed in Zaborani near Nevesinje around June 4/5, 1942.
“Upon hearing the gunfire in Dramiševo, platoon commander Orman, along with a few gathered fighters in Zaborani, hurriedly went to see what was happening and what was taking place in Dramiševo. Halfway there, his group encountered the Chetniks and in the ensuing battle, Commander Orman, an agricultural engineer from Ljubuški, and nurse Neda Šimić, a worker from Mostar, were killed. The remaining fighters retreated through the forest, evading the superior enemy forces, and took refuge in Cesim. The Chetniks continued on to Zaborani and besieged the school, where a heroic resistance was led by a group of fighters, headed by Commissar Drago Simić and his deputy Boro Radan (…)”
Neda’s mother Šima was an activist before the war, and all three of her children actively participated in the National Liberation War (NOP). Together with her son Franjo and his comrades, she was involved in the transfer of rifles from the warehouse. In 1944, she was assigned the task of escorting three Home Guard officers to Bijelo Polje, from where they continued their journey to join the units, with the help of connections.
According to the archives of Radmilo Braca Andrić, the remains of Neda Šimić were transferred and buried in the Partisan Memorial Cemetery in Mostar.
