Marko ALAGIĆ
MARKO ALAGIĆ, son of ĐURO, born on May 1, 1900, in Stikada near Gračac in Lika. Professor, director of the Commercial Academy in Mostar, leftist intellectual. Arrested by the Ustaše in Mostar in July 1941 and killed. His son Aleksandar Aco Alagić was a fighter and died near Konjic in 1943.
A memory of Marko Alagić:
“The day before the April war, our group had a theoretical lesson led, as far as I remember, by Andrija Krešić. Director Marko Alagić happened to be there as well. He listened to the discussion for a while, and then he said to us: ‘Dear children, it would be better for you to disperse as soon as possible because we do not know what tomorrow brings.’ And that’s what happened: the next day, the attack on Yugoslavia took place. The director was very beloved among us, and in the classes of business mathematics, he promoted competition in solving tasks. The Ustaše killed him in 1941, and his son Aco, our schoolmate, died as a partisan in 1943.”
