Kemal A. VELAGIĆ
KEMAL VELAGIĆ, son of AHMED, born on October 20, 1926, in Blagaj near Mostar. Sheet metal worker, member of the League of Communist Youth (SKOJ) since 1942, in the Battalion since October 1943, killed in Čičevo near Konjic on February 17, 1944.
Circumstances of Kemal’s death, as recorded:
“In the battle against the Chetniks of the Konjic Brigade on February 10 near the village of Kula, the Battalion suffered heavy losses: 9 fighters killed and 9 wounded (…) It was reported that such an outcome was caused by the malfunctioning of the frozen weapons and errors in the Battalion’s leadership. On the other side, 4 Chetniks were killed and 2 were wounded.” Partisan Kemal Velagić was “wounded in both legs and died soon after due to blood loss.”
