Hilmija A. KATICA
HILMIJA KATICA DUPLI, son of ALIJA, born on February 10, 1927, in Mostar, student. According to the family, he was physically strong, perhaps more than usual for his age, hence the nickname “Dupli” (Double). Member of the Communist Youth League (SKOJ) since 1942. Joined the People’s Liberation Army and Partisan Detachments in August 1943, in the Mostar Battalion. Fighter, killed in Grušća near Konjic on April 27/28, 1944, during the Seventh Enemy Offensive in the Konjic region by the Chetniks. He was part of the unit assigned to secure a hospital where there were 15 wounded and sick partisans, as well as around ten field workers. During the battle, “while crawling across the terrain, a hand grenade, a ‘kašikara,’ became detached from Hilmija Katica Dupli, a student from Mostar, due to a malfunction. The safety ring of the grenade must have caught on something and pulled out, causing it to explode and kill him.”
