Ahmet M. SPUŽIĆ
AHMED* SPUŽIĆ, son of MEHMED born on December 3, 1924* in Mostar, a tailor and a football player for FC “Velež.” A member of the League of Communist Youth (SKOJ) since 1942. Joined the People’s Liberation Army in November 1943, serving as a machine gunner in the Battalion. A fighter who died by drowning in February 1944 in Kašići near Konjic during a Chetnik attack on the company.
“Under the pressure of Chetnik gunfire, company commissar Alija Delić withdraws with the water from Košuta and crosses the Neretva River on a raft, reaching the village of Kašići. While crossing the Neretva, machine gunner Ahmet Spužić, a student from Mostar, slipped and drowned in the river. The machine gun was found a few days later with a local farmer, who returned it after receiving a severe beating.”
