BRANKO (TODOR’S SON) MRKIĆ lived and studied in Mostar, later a student at the University of Belgrade Faculty of Electrical Engineering. A pre-war member of SKOJ. Arrested by the Ustaše on June 25, 1941, in Mostar together with Ilija Kokotović. Both were taken by them toward Bijelo Polje with the intention of being executed on the banks of the Neretva River. However, they both manage to jump into the river and, under cover of darkness, save themselves.
After that, Branko hid in Mostar for a while, but after some time he was arrested again by the Ustaše. He was taken together with other arrested Serbs from Mostar to Gospić and killed in the Jadovno concentration camp camp. Ilija Kokotović escaped the same fate by leaving for Serbia.
