Alija H. SALKOVIĆ
ALIJA SALKOVIĆ, son of HASAN, born on July 23, 1913, in Mostar, barber. Joined the Battalion in July 1943 as a fighter. Shortly after joining the unit, he was captured at Kamena near Mostar in July 1943 and executed at Ovojci near Mostar.
The attack at Kamena, as per Enver Ćemalović:
“In the dawn of July 5th, thanks to betrayal that was never confirmed, the Detachment was surrounded by soldiers of the 7th SS Division ‘Prinz Eugen,’ who opened a hail of fire at close range from machine guns and automatic weapons on the fighters who were sleeping before the guard could sound the alarm. Chaos ensued among confused and inexperienced fighters. Anyone who stood up was mowed down by gunfire or wounded if they didn’t surrender to the shouts of ‘Halt!’ Individuals and small groups managed to crawl away thanks to the uneven terrain, shrubs, and thickets, and especially due to the scattered nature of the groups. 18 of them managed to escape the encirclement, which was not completely sealed in some places. During this incident, 10 fighters were killed: BORO RADAN, the Detachment’s commissar, a student from Mostar, MUSTAFA BULJKO, the deputy commissar, a gardener from Mostar, NAZIF DŽEPO, a student from Mostar, RIZAH HADŽIMAHMUTOVIĆ, a student from Mostar, SAFET KURTOVIĆ, a student from Mostar, MARTA PAVIĆ, a student from Mostar, ALIJA SALKOVIĆ, a worker from Mostar, AVDO TATAREVIĆ, a student from Stolac, ZIJAD VRGORA, a student from Mostar, and DUŠAN VUJIČIĆ, a worker from Sarajevo.”
