Meho S. ISIĆ
MEHMED MEHO ISIĆ, son of SELIM, born on May 5, 1914* in Gnojnice near Mostar, a farmer. He joined the People’s Liberation Army and Partisan Detachments on February 14, 1945, in the 2nd Battalion of the 10th Herzegovinian Brigade. A fighter, he died on May 5, 1945, in the battle for the liberation of Istria. Regarding this battle, it is recorded: “On May 5th, the Brigade was tasked with cutting off and destroying the enemy wedge that had reached the village of Harija, west of Bistrica. However, due to the negligence of the headquarters of the 2nd Battalion, a tragedy similar to that of the 5th Battalion in Dolina in November 1943 occurred. During the night, the enemy infiltrated one battalion behind the front and attacked the unsecured brigade reserve (2nd Battalion) in the village of Brdce. The intervention of the small reconnaissance unit of the Brigade prevented a complete defeat and enabled the remaining battalion to break through. No task throughout the existence of the Brigade was paid with more losses… In this battle, 54 fighters and non-commissioned officers lost their lives. There were perhaps twice as many wounded. A certain number of the wounded later succumbed to their injuries, so the number of casualties exceeded 60.”
*According to the information in the book “Spomenica Mostara 1941-1945.” Meho Isić was born in 1914.
