TRBONJA\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<!-- wp:themify-builder\/canvas \/-->\n\n\n<p>BE\u0106IR BE\u0106A TRBONJA, son of JUSUF, born on November 29, 1919, in Mostar, electrician, football player for FC &#8220;Vele\u017e.&#8221; Joined the People&#8217;s Liberation War in December 1941 as a corporal. He managed to survive the Chetnik coup in June 1942 but fell into the hands of the Usta\u0161e during the breakout and ended up in the Konjic prison with several other partisans. At the request of a number of fighters, the battalion leadership organized a rescue mission from the Konjic prison. With the support of the party and SKOJ organizations in Konjic, the operation was successfully carried out on July 3-4, 1942, by Meha Trbonja, <a href=\"https:\/\/partizansko.info\/en\/partizan\/mustafa-a-cemalovic-narodni-heroj\/\" data-type=\"partizan\" data-id=\"2388\">Mustafa \u0106emalovi\u0107 \u0106imba<\/a>, <a class=\"wpil_keyword_link\" title=\"Hasan Zahirovi\u0107 Laca\" data-wpil-keyword-link=\"linked\" href=\"https:\/\/partizansko.info\/en\/partizan\/hasan-s-zahirovic-narodni-heroj\/\">Hasan Zahirovi\u0107 Laca<\/a>, Abdulah Lugi\u0107, and Safet Anagi\u0107. After leaving the prison, he continued his underground work in Mostar. In the summer of 1943, he reentered the Mostar Battalion. He died as a corporal in Gru\u0161\u0107a near Konjic in April 1944 during a Chetnik attack on a partisan hospital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the family, Be\u0107ir&#8217;s remains were buried after the war at the Partisan Memorial Cemetery in Mostar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Brother of national hero Mehmed Trbonja and fallen fighter <a href=\"https:\/\/partizansko.info\/en\/partizan\/omer-j-trbonja\/\" data-type=\"partizan\" data-id=\"13472\">Omer Trbonja<\/a>. A street in Mostar is named after the Trbonja brothers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Circumstances of Be\u0107ir&#8217;s death, as recorded:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>&#8220;While staying in Glavati\u010devo, the commander of the Chetnik Konjic Brigade, on April 27, through his informants, discovered a partisan hospital in the area of Gru\u0161\u0107a, where, in addition to the wounded and sick, there were hospital staff, about ten field workers, and dozens of security personnel, totaling about 35 people. A group of 42 Chetniks under the direct command of brigade commander V. R. penetrated Gru\u0161\u0107a on April 28, attacked and overpowered the defense of the hospital. During April 29 and 30, through a search of the area, the Chetniks found and killed the wounded and sick partisan fighters together with the captured hospital staff, field workers, and some fighters from the protection unit (\u2026)&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Among those killed were Mostar residents <a href=\"https:\/\/partizansko.info\/en\/partizan\/osman-m-brkic\/\" data-type=\"partizan\" data-id=\"11952\">Osman Brki\u0107<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/partizansko.info\/en\/partizan\/osman-o-sisic\/\" data-type=\"partizan\" data-id=\"13371\">Osman \u0160i\u0161i\u0107<\/a>, and Be\u0107ir Trbonja. &#8220;When the Chetniks called Be\u0107ir Trbonja, a worker from Mostar, to surrender, he agreed, but only if B. Cuca, the Chetnik commander, came for him. As soon as Cuca appeared, Be\u0107ir shot him in the head and killed him. M. Those of us who were 17, 18 years old, some seemed old even though they were not older than 25. The ones over 30 were rare. There were girls and boys with different characteristics and temperaments, robust and calm, talkative and silent, recklessly brave and rational, ordinary and above-average, semi-literate and university-educated, workers and highly skilled craftsmen, high school students and university students, skilled singers and those who couldn't carry a tune, jokers and serious-minded individuals. From all our nations and religions: Muslims, Croats, Serbs, Jews, Orthodox Christians, Catholics, Muslims, Jews, atheists, and semi-atheists. Some were from straight from Mostar and others from the surrounding locations, from Konjic and outside Konjic.\" (Hercegovina Magazine No. 7, p. 238)\r\n\r\nGroups of new fighters arrived from Mostar every 10-15 days, and the Unit quickly grew into a solid military force. The guides for the groups from Mostar were Mehmed Arap, Vasa Maslo, Serif Buri\u0107, Husa Orman, Vojo Ivani\u0161evi\u0107, and Pero Krajina, who were among the bravest and most resourceful fighters. The groups regularly brought not only weapons but also medical supplies, sugar for the hospital, writing materials, large quantities of paper, books taken from the National Library (which formed the library at Borci), and other supplies for the needs of the Unit.
