“When the fighters of the Mostar Partisan Detachment crossed from the left to the right bank of the Neretva River in April 1944, their hospital remained with 15 wounded and sick partisans in the village of Gru\u0161\u0107i, along with about ten field workers and dozens of security personnel, totaling around 35 people. Three girls from Mostar, serving as nurses, also stayed there: Sofija One\u0161\u0107uk<\/a>, Fatima \u0160eva, and Vahida Mujan<\/a>. The hospital was well-hidden in huts within the forest. However, on April 28, the Chetniks discovered the hospital, attacked its protective unit, broke through, and entered among the helpless patients. There were girls and boys with different characteristics and temperaments, robust and calm, talkative and silent, recklessly brave and rational, ordinary and above-average, semi-literate and university-educated, workers and highly skilled craftsmen, high school students and university students, skilled singers and those who couldn't carry a tune, jokers and serious-minded individuals. From all our nations and religions: Muslims, Croats, Serbs, Jews, Orthodox Christians, Catholics, Muslims, Jews, atheists, and semi-atheists. Some were from straight from Mostar and others from the surrounding locations, from Konjic and outside Konjic.\" (Hercegovina Magazine No. 7, p. 238)\r\n\r\nGroups of new fighters arrived from Mostar every 10-15 days, and the Unit quickly grew into a solid military force. The guides for the groups from Mostar were Mehmed Arap, Vasa Maslo, Serif Buri\u0107, Husa Orman, Vojo Ivani\u0161evi\u0107, and Pero Krajina, who were among the bravest and most resourceful fighters. The groups regularly brought not only weapons but also medical supplies, sugar for the hospital, writing materials, large quantities of paper, books taken from the National Library (which formed the library at Borci), and other supplies for the needs of the Unit. Zbog toga sam i poslao Ahmeda u partizane.\u201d\r\n\r\nI najmla\u0111a sestra Devleta \u0160eva se prisje\u0107ala: \"I moja bra\u0107a i sestre bili su u partizanima. Bila sam dijete, ali pamtim da smo i prije oslobo\u0111enja 14. februara (Dan oslobo\u0111enja Mostara; op. aut.) i\u0161\u010dekivali njihov povratak. Grad je oslobo\u0111en, na Musali se proslavljala sloboda, pamtim kolo i to da mi otac nije dozvolio da ostanem na veselju. Nekoliko dana kasnije saznali smo za smrt, pri\u010da Devleta. Tu\u017enu vijest njenom ocu saop\u0107io je tako\u0111er narodni heroj, \u010duveni Mostarac Meha Trbonja. I\u0161ao je \u010desto do Musale, gdje je vrijeme provodio s dru\u0161tvom u kafanama. Tih ve\u010deri nije zaklju\u010davao avlijska vrata u ubje\u0111enju da \u0107e se djeca vratiti. Meha mu je jednog jutra pri\u0161ao i rekao: \u201cHad\u017eija, \u010dujem da ne zaklju\u010dava\u0161 vrata\u201d, upozoravaju\u0107i ga da to ne \u010dini \u201cjer jo\u0161 ima sva\u0161ta po gradu\u201d, a onda mu je saop\u0107io najtu\u017eniju vijest. Rekao je: \u201cZaklju\u010davaj vrata, djeca se, na\u017ealost, ne\u0107e vratiti\u201d. Do ku\u0107e ga je potom odveo jedan od drugova kojeg je on od milja zvao - Ahbab. Nije imao snage u\u0107i unutra s njim, \u010dovjek se vratio, a otac je u avliju u\u0161ao i kroz jecaje rekao: \u201cSad mo\u017eemo zaklju\u010davati vrata, djeca se ne\u0107e vratiti\u201d.
