SALKO SKANDO, son of AHMET, born in Mostar in 1921. He was an illegal resistance fighter who, according to family tradition, aided the resistance movement along with his brother Ibrahim by hiding partisans and smuggling weapons into Podvele\u017eje. He was arrested in 1944: “Both were arrested by the Gestapo, and as they were being led tied up across the bridge on Musala (Tito’s Bridge), Salko whispered to Ibrahim to push against the guards and take the opportunity to jump off the bridge. That’s exactly what they did, and Ibrahim jumped off the bridge with his hands tied. About a kilometer downstream, he was rescued by a girl with the last name Hasanbegovi\u0107, who hid him. Salko was taken away, and his remains were never found.”<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Their third brother, \u0106amil, was also arrested and taken to Sarajevo. He was hanged in Dobrinja in 1945, along with a group of 55 illegal fighters from Sarajevo who were sentenced to hanging by the Ustasha summary court on the orders of the notorious ustasha leader Vjekoslav Maks Luburi\u0107.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
