SALIH SALKO MILAVI\u0106, son of SMAIL, born on March 27, 1920, in Mostar. Photographer. Member of SKOJ since 1941. In the Battalion since the beginning of 1942. During the Chetnik coup, he was sent back to Mostar from Crno Polje in June 1942 due to exhaustion. Captured in Bijelo Polje near Mostar in June 1942, interned in the Mamula camp, transferred to the Visco di Udine camp in Italy, and released after Italy’s surrender. He moved to Slovenia, where he joined the Slovenian partisans in the “Ljubo \u0160ercer” brigade<\/a>. A fighter, he died among the Slovenian partisans in autumn 1943*.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Mensur Seferovi\u0107, the famous photograph of the slain “Salko \u0160esti\u0107<\/a>, the youth leader of the city, in the morgue of the Mostar Hospital, was taken by Salko Milavi\u0107, a member of SKOJ’s Local Committee, as assigned. However, this turned out to be inaccurate as Milavi\u0107 was interned in a camp at the time of \u0160esti\u0107’s death. The picture was actually taken by his brother, Car Milavi\u0107, who was also a photographer, along with Rifat Pavlovi\u0107.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There were girls and boys with different characteristics and temperaments, robust and calm, talkative and silent, recklessly brave and rational, ordinary and above-average, semi-literate and university-educated, workers and highly skilled craftsmen, high school students and university students, skilled singers and those who couldn't carry a tune, jokers and serious-minded individuals. From all our nations and religions: Muslims, Croats, Serbs, Jews, Orthodox Christians, Catholics, Muslims, Jews, atheists, and semi-atheists. Some were from straight from Mostar and others from the surrounding locations, from Konjic and outside Konjic.\" (Hercegovina Magazine No. 7, p. 238)\r\n\r\nGroups of new fighters arrived from Mostar every 10-15 days, and the Unit quickly grew into a solid military force. The guides for the groups from Mostar were Mehmed Arap, Vasa Maslo, Serif Buri\u0107, Husa Orman, Vojo Ivani\u0161evi\u0107, and Pero Krajina, who were among the bravest and most resourceful fighters. The groups regularly brought not only weapons but also medical supplies, sugar for the hospital, writing materials, large quantities of paper, books taken from the National Library (which formed the library at Borci), and other supplies for the needs of the Unit.
