SULEJMAN MAHO LEHO, son of SALIH, born on August 19, 1921, in Blagaj near Mostar, a house painter. Member of the League of Communist Youth (SKOJ) since 1941, in the Battalion since December 1941. Fighter, captured by the Home Guard during the Chetnik coup, during the battles around the school in Bijela on the night between June 14 and 15, 1942, on positions above Konjic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
From the Chetnik encirclement where around 120 Chetniks surrounded about 50 partisans, Sulejman managed to break through. However, as he fell behind the group due to accompanying a wounded comrade, he was captured and taken to Jasenovac. One source states that he was “sent to a camp upon the recommendation of the Protective Guard for the city of Sarajevo and the Vrhbosna District, for a period of 3 years, and fought in the ranks of the rebels.”<\/em> He was killed in Jasenovac in 1942.<\/p>\n\n\n\n EXCERPT FROM LITERATURE – about the attack on the school in Bijela:<\/p>\n\n\n\n “After a fierce attack, the Chetniks repeatedly called on our comrades by name to surrender because there was no escape for them. Our comrades responded with fire, and an unequal battle began, which lasted the entire day of June 15. A connection was established between about twenty comrades who were on the ground floor and ten comrades who were on the upper floor by breaking through the ceiling. The defense was led by Stjepan \u0160ulenti\u0107. They occupied all the windows, and a section that was in the attic could successfully observe and fight the Chetniks. (…) In the clash, 16 partisans were killed: Stjepan \u0160ulenti\u0107 \u0160ule<\/a> – a student from Mostar, Harno Taslaman – a worker from Mostar, Sulejman Cili\u0107 – a student from Jablanica, Togo Finci – a student from Sarajevo, Kabiljo Montiljo – a student from Sarajevo, Ranko Kosjerina – a worker from Mostar, Hivza Brki\u0107<\/a> – a student from Mostar, Remzo \u0106i\u0161i\u0107<\/a> – a worker from Mostar, Avdo Bo\u0161njak – a worker from Mostar, Milan Iveti\u0107 – a worker from Mostar, Muhamed \u0160apuh – a worker from Mostar, Avdo Vejzovi\u0107 – a worker from Mostar, Muhamed Zalihi\u0107 – a worker from Mostar, Ahmet Gr\u010di\u0107 – a student from Konjic, Mujo Hubana<\/a> – a peasant from Bijelo Polje near Mostar, Ibro Dizdarevi\u0107<\/a> – a worker from Mostar, Avdo Duranovi\u0107 (…). The first group managed to break through, but the second group, which included Enes Orman, Meha Taso<\/a>, Be\u0107a Trbonja<\/a>, fell during the breakthrough and into the hands of the enemy, ending up in the Konjic prison. Comrades Branko Premu\u017ei\u0107 and Sulejman Leho<\/a> had a very difficult time breaking through, as Branko was wounded and injured in the spine, so they were captured and taken to camps. Until the formation of the 13th Herzegovina Brigade in May 1944, 827 fighters passed through the Battalion, and 445 of them perished, including 211 from Mostar. Of the 86 women, 43 were killed. Mostar residents also fought in many other units of the NOVJ (People's Liberation Army of Yugoslavia) and among the ranks of the activists of the National Liberation War in Mostar and other cities in Bosnia and Herzegovina... According to the records of the organization SUBNOR Mostar, every third citizen was an activist of the National Liberation War, 670 fighters were killed, 1517 were victims of fascist terror, and 206 were civilian war victims. Those of us who were 17, 18 years old, some seemed old even though they were not older than 25. The ones over 30 were rare. There were girls and boys with different characteristics and temperaments, robust and calm, talkative and silent, recklessly brave and rational, ordinary and above-average, semi-literate and university-educated, workers and highly skilled craftsmen, high school students and university students, skilled singers and those who couldn't carry a tune, jokers and serious-minded individuals. From all our nations and religions: Muslims, Croats, Serbs, Jews, Orthodox Christians, Catholics, Muslims, Jews, atheists, and semi-atheists. Some were from straight from Mostar and others from the surrounding locations, from Konjic and outside Konjic.\" (Hercegovina Magazine No. 7, p. 238)\r\n\r\nGroups of new fighters arrived from Mostar every 10-15 days, and the Unit quickly grew into a solid military force. The guides for the groups from Mostar were Mehmed Arap, Vasa Maslo, Serif Buri\u0107, Husa Orman, Vojo Ivani\u0161evi\u0107, and Pero Krajina, who were among the bravest and most resourceful fighters. The groups regularly brought not only weapons but also medical supplies, sugar for the hospital, writing materials, large quantities of paper, books taken from the National Library (which formed the library at Borci), and other supplies for the needs of the Unit.
