\u0110EMILA \u0106AMILA JELIN-DELI\u0106, born on September 14, 1907, in Mostar, daughter of AGAN Deli\u0107 and HANA n\u00e9e Maksumi\u0107, mother of three children, a homemaker. From a Ustasha document, we learn that on November 22, 1944, she was “sent to a camp for a period of 1 year based on the proposal of the \u017d.R.O. in Sarajevo: her husband Ahmed Jelen, a military musician, defected to the partisans.” \u0106amila, along with her three children, was taken to the Jasenovac concentration camp.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
After the war, \u0106amila’s husband Ahmed gave the following testimony to the City Commission for Investigating War Crimes of the Occupiers and Their Collaborators:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“On November 22, 1944, when I left for the partisan ranks, Ustasha members came to my house at night and took my wife \u0106amila, born Deli\u0107 in 1907, and our three children, Enisa aged 13, Jagoda aged 7, and Zijad aged 3 months. Since then, I don’t know what happened to them. I only know that they were taken to Jasenovac. The witness presents a letter written by his wife \u0106amila from the women’s camp in Jasenovac, dated January 8, 1945. In the letter, she informs that she and the children are doing well and asks for more food to be sent. The letter bears the postal stamp of the Mostar post office dated January 21, 1945, and an Ustasha seal with the Ustasha coat of arms. The witness also shows another letter sent by his daughter Enisa from the same camp on the same date, addressed to his brother Husnija. This letter also bears the Ustasha camp seal. After inspection, the letters were returned to the witness. I tried to find out who took my wife and children but could not determine whether they were agents of the Mostar police or some Ustasha members. The head of the police at that time was Dr. \u0160oi\u0107, and his penal-political associate was a certain Leko. I hold both of them responsible, as well as their superiors.
