A farmer, a candidate for membership in the Communist Party of Yugoslavia (KPJ) since 1942, in the Battalion since October 1941, a fighter, lance corporal, severely wounded in a clash with the Chetniks, transferred to the Central Hospital, where he contracted abdominal typhus and died as a wounded soldier and typhus patient in Ulog (Kalinovik) in March 1943.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>EXCERPT FROM LITERATURE:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He provided cover during the unsuccessful attack on the Ustasha station in Vrdolje near Konjic on January 22, 1942: <em>&#8220;The squad, in collaboration with the water from Spiljani, launched an attack on Vrdolje on the morning of January 22, 1942. It was a brutally cold mountain morning, with temperatures dropping below minus 25 degrees Celsius, freezing the hands and feet of the people, rifles, and machine guns, and raising doubts about the execution of the combat mission. Neither the incursion of the unit into the upper part of the village, nor the capture of the militiamen Mile Pa\u0111en and Alija Novali\u0107, improved the situation of the half-dead group around the village, where the armed forces, fortified in warm houses, had received reinforcements the day before the attack. While retreating, we suffered heavy losses.* Vaso Ga\u0161i\u0107 and \u010cedo \u0106e\u0107ez were killed, while Ilija Kuljanin, Rade \u0160inik, Omer Buljuba\u0161i\u0107, Mile Serdarevi\u0107, and Drago Sokni\u0107 from the Igmanska unit were wounded (&#8230;)&#8221;. *Providing cover during the retreat of our fighters from the houses they entered was done by <a class=\"wpil_keyword_link\" href=\"https:\/\/partizansko.info\/en\/partizan\/borivoje-p-radan\/\" title=\"Boro Radan\" data-wpil-keyword-link=\"linked\">Boro Radan<\/a>, Branko Ga\u0161i\u0107, and Bo\u017eo \u0160koro from a house where they disarmed two militiamen. In the end, they took the weapons of the disarmed militiamen and withdrew under fire.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>During the Chetnik coup in 1942, he refused to join the Chetniks: &#8220;On the night of June 9\/10, Bo\u017eo Skoro and Branko Ga\u0161i\u0107 arrived at the squad command and informed us that Krsto Su\u0161i\u0107 from \u010celebi\u0107i, the platoon commander at Prijevorac, had gathered the fighters late yesterday afternoon and said: &#8216;From now on, the platoon is part of the Chetnik forces, and during the night, we need to cleanse Zijemlje of newcomers, Muslims, and Croats, especially the members of the KPJ.&#8217; Shortly thereafter, the platoon set off towards Dnopolje. Until the formation of the 13th Herzegovina Brigade in May 1944, 827 fighters passed through the Battalion, and 445 of them perished, including 211 from Mostar. Of the 86 women, 43 were killed. Mostar residents also fought in many other units of the NOVJ (People's Liberation Army of Yugoslavia) and among the ranks of the activists of the National Liberation War in Mostar and other cities in Bosnia and Herzegovina... According to the records of the organization SUBNOR Mostar, every third citizen was an activist of the National Liberation War, 670 fighters were killed, 1517 were victims of fascist terror, and 206 were civilian war victims. Those of us who were 17, 18 years old, some seemed old even though they were not older than 25. The ones over 30 were rare. There were girls and boys with different characteristics and temperaments, robust and calm, talkative and silent, recklessly brave and rational, ordinary and above-average, semi-literate and university-educated, workers and highly skilled craftsmen, high school students and university students, skilled singers and those who couldn't carry a tune, jokers and serious-minded individuals. From all our nations and religions: Muslims, Croats, Serbs, Jews, Orthodox Christians, Catholics, Muslims, Jews, atheists, and semi-atheists. Some were from straight from Mostar and others from the surrounding locations, from Konjic and outside Konjic.\" (Hercegovina Magazine No. 7, p. 238)\r\n\r\nGroups of new fighters arrived from Mostar every 10-15 days, and the Unit quickly grew into a solid military force. The guides for the groups from Mostar were Mehmed Arap, Vasa Maslo, Serif Buri\u0107, Husa Orman, Vojo Ivani\u0161evi\u0107, and Pero Krajina, who were among the bravest and most resourceful fighters. The groups regularly brought not only weapons but also medical supplies, sugar for the hospital, writing materials, large quantities of paper, books taken from the National Library (which formed the library at Borci), and other supplies for the needs of the Unit.
