FEJI\u0106"},"content":{"rendered":"<!-- wp:themify-builder\/canvas \/-->\n\n\n<p>E\u0160REF FEJI\u0106 ETA, son of MUHAMED, born on September 5, 1923, in Mostar, a student who attended the Trade School. A football player for &#8220;Vele\u017e,&#8221; a member of SKOJ since 1941, and KPJ since 1942. In the Battalion since September 1941.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Because of E\u0161ref and their other children, their mother Adila was taken to the police: <em>&#8220;There, near Heren\u010di\u0107, sat the son of a teacher named Jahi\u0107 in uniform. He interrogated me and just smirked. He asked if I had children and where they were, and I replied that I did, that they were alive and well with their mother, but I didn&#8217;t know where they were; they weren&#8217;t little for me to keep track of them. They asked about my son D\u017eemal, he was the oldest, they asked about \u0160efko, they asked about Esad and the youngest, E\u0161ref, who was 17-18 years old at the time, and I told them that he went on a mission to procure grain and got delayed somewhere and didn&#8217;t return. They then told me to report it if my sons came to me, and if they were not guilty, they would let them go, if they were a little guilty, they would go to prison, and if they were very guilty, they would be shot.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>E\u0161ref survived the Fifth Offensive on the Sutjeska and returned to Mostar with 80 other fighters for recovery. After that, he returned to the battle. As a lance corporal, he perished in \u0110aji\u0107i near Konjic in December 1943; according to records, he drowned in the Neretva River during an operation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>&#8220;The unit in \u0160piljani, under the leadership of the Battalion&#8217;s quartermaster D\u017eemal Dizdar, organized an economic action to gather food in \u0110aji\u0107i on December 17. With one platoon, they crossed the Neretva River using a rope with a trapeze for river crossing. While our fighters were collecting food, the Usta\u0161e cut the rope on the Neretva, preventing them from returning to our territory. The Neretva was swollen, and the fords could not be used. E\u0161ref Feji\u0107, a student from Mostar, volunteered to swim across the Neretva tied to a rope. As he entered the water, moving away from the shore, he was carried away by the river&#8217;s speed and began to sink. He unfastened the rope but, exhausted, met his death in the waves of the river.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>E\u0161ref was the second of four sons of Muhamed and Adila Feji\u0107, one of the five deceased members of this family that also included: <a href=\"https:\/\/partizansko.info\/en\/partizan\/dzemal-m-fejic\/\">D\u017eemal<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/partizansko.info\/en\/partizan\/sefko-m-fejic\/\">\u0160efko<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/partizansko.info\/en\/partizan\/esad-m-fejic\/\" data-type=\"partizan\" data-id=\"7355\">Esad<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/partizansko.info\/en\/partizan\/samija-m-fejic-krajina\/\">Samija<\/a>. Two of E\u0161ref&#8217;s uncles were killed by Germans (one of them was <a href=\"https:\/\/partizansko.info\/en\/partizan\/dr-asim-a-opijac\/\">Dr. Asim Opija\u010d<\/a>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One of the most famous streets in Mostar bears the name of the Feji\u0107 brothers. E\u0161ref&#8217;s name was also recorded on a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.most.ba\/091\/015.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">memorial plaque<\/a> for students at Mostar Gymnasium. The plaque disappeared without a trace during the war events of 1992-1995. The well-known song &#8220;Mostarska mati&#8221; by Mostarske ki\u0161e is dedicated to E\u0161ref&#8217;s mother, Adila. According to the records of the organization SUBNOR Mostar, every third citizen was an activist of the National Liberation War, 670 fighters were killed, 1517 were victims of fascist terror, and 206 were civilian war victims. Those of us who were 17, 18 years old, some seemed old even though they were not older than 25. The ones over 30 were rare. There were girls and boys with different characteristics and temperaments, robust and calm, talkative and silent, recklessly brave and rational, ordinary and above-average, semi-literate and university-educated, workers and highly skilled craftsmen, high school students and university students, skilled singers and those who couldn't carry a tune, jokers and serious-minded individuals. From all our nations and religions: Muslims, Croats, Serbs, Jews, Orthodox Christians, Catholics, Muslims, Jews, atheists, and semi-atheists. Some were from straight from Mostar and others from the surrounding locations, from Konjic and outside Konjic.\" (Hercegovina Magazine No. 7, p. 238)\r\n\r\nGroups of new fighters arrived from Mostar every 10-15 days, and the Unit quickly grew into a solid military force. The guides for the groups from Mostar were Mehmed Arap, Vasa Maslo, Serif Buri\u0107, Husa Orman, Vojo Ivani\u0161evi\u0107, and Pero Krajina, who were among the bravest and most resourceful fighters. The groups regularly brought not only weapons but also medical supplies, sugar for the hospital, writing materials, large quantities of paper, books taken from the National Library (which formed the library at Borci), and other supplies for the needs of the Unit.
