MAHMUT MAHA \u0110IKI\u0106, son of IBRAHIM, born on January 30, 1915, in Mostar, electrician. Pre-war activist, member of the Communist Party of Yugoslavia (KPJ) since 1938, secretary of the KPJ cell in the Brown Coal Mine in Mostar from 1938 to 1940, member of the Municipal Committee of the KPJ for Mostar in 1940. One of the 15 participants in the party conference at the end of June 1940, which elected the Local Committee of the KPJ for the city of Mostar. To avoid arrest after a strike, he temporarily moved to Zenica where he worked until June 1941 when he returned to Mostar. He was present at the meeting of communists on July 31, 1941, at the house of Zlatka Vukovi\u0107<\/a>. On that occasion, Zlatka threw a bomb at the Ustashe who had burst into the house to provide an escape. She was captured and shot two hours later in the high school courtyard, along with Ahmed Sefi\u0107<\/a> and her tenants, Vera<\/a> and Dejan Popovi\u0107<\/a>. Among those present at the meeting, Zlatka’s son Slobodan<\/a> and Jusuf \u010cevro<\/a> were also captured and shot. Mahmut \u0110iki\u0107 and Mustafa Huskovi\u0107<\/a> managed to escape. Together with Mustafa and other members of the KPJ, following the decision of the KPJ to initiate a general popular uprising, Mahmut was sent to the Nevesinje district to organize the uprising in eastern Herzegovina. During an attempt to establish contact with the party organization in the field, Mahmut \u0110iki\u0107 and Mustafa Huskovi\u0107<\/a> were captured and accused by the peasant rebels of being Ustashe spies. They were shot near Kifino Selo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She was arrested and executed on the same day, along with Ahmed Sefi\u0107. Zlatka's tenants who happened to be on the location at the time, Dejan and Vera Popovi\u0107, sympathizers of the People's Liberation Movement, were also executed. Mustafa Huskovi\u0107 and Mahmut \u0110iki\u0107 managed to escape. After the war, the city of Mostar rebuilt Gojko Vukovi\u0107's house and turned it into a memorial house with a museum exhibition about the life and work of this family. In the courtyard, there used to be a bust of Gojko Vukovi\u0107, which, according to eyewitnesses, was thrown into the Neretva River during the 1990s war.
