In the Battalion since April 1942, serving as a lance corporal. Survived the Fifth Offensive on the Sutjeska River. He was killed while descending into Mostar on July 22\/23, 1943. Shot by the NDH police during an escape attempt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>EXCERPTS FROM LITERATURE:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A vignette from the partisan life:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>&#8220;At dawn on June 11, we set off to the area between Mrkalj-klada and Drago\u0161-sedlo, below Magli\u0107 Mountain, where we deployed patrols towards Prijevor, deep in the forests of Peru\u0107ica Mountain, with the goal of securing the passage of the Central Hospital to Drago\u0161-sedlo. The Germans were on Magli\u0107 Mountain, where they had climbed a few days earlier, and they were shelling us from above with artillery while sending their patrols and reconnaissance groups to the foot of Magli\u0107. One of those groups controlled the path we were moving towards Mrkalj-klada and stopped the entire Battalion. The company commissar, <a class=\"wpil_keyword_link\" title=\"\u0160efik Obad\" data-wpil-keyword-link=\"linked\" href=\"https:\/\/partizansko.info\/en\/partizan\/sefik-o-obad-narodni-heroj\/\">\u0160efik Obad<\/a>, along with the commander <a href=\"https:\/\/partizansko.info\/en\/partizan\/ahmet-s-pintul-narodni-heroj\/\" data-type=\"partizan\" data-id=\"1509\">Ahmet Pintul<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/partizansko.info\/en\/partizan\/esref-m-fejic\/\" data-type=\"partizan\" data-id=\"2234\">E\u0161ref Feji\u0107<\/a>, and Alija \u0106i\u0161i\u0107, ventured through the forest, and when they reached above the German machine gun nest, our comrades bombarded the Germans with grenades, brought the light machine gun &#8216;Sharac,&#8217; and 4 rifles with plenty of ammunition. After the Battalion passed, we rested in the forest. We were given a sizable piece of raw meat for food. It was forbidden to light a fire (&#8230;) &#8220;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Regarding the death of Alija \u0106i\u0161i\u0107:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>&#8220;On July 22\/23 (\u2026) Salko Feji\u0107, Mehmed Arap, and Alija \u0106i\u0161i\u0107 went to Mostar to organize the delivery of food. They descended into the vineyards above Carina, where they were noticed by a peasant working in the vineyard. He immediately informed the police about their whereabouts. A group of Usta\u0161e, agents, and policemen quickly arrived, surrounded the comrades, and opened fire on them. Salko Feji\u0107 and Mehmed Arap fled downhill. Feji\u0107, wounded in several places, hid in a gap beneath the road and reached Dobr\u010d during the night. Mehmed Arap sprinted into the outskirts and then circumvented the site of the attack in a wide arc, heading towards Dobr\u010d. Alija \u0106i\u0161i\u0107, a worker from Mostar, was killed while fleeing uphill. Upon arriving in Dobr\u010d, Feji\u0107 and Arap told us about this new tragedy. Those of us who were 17, 18 years old, some seemed old even though they were not older than 25. The ones over 30 were rare. There were girls and boys with different characteristics and temperaments, robust and calm, talkative and silent, recklessly brave and rational, ordinary and above-average, semi-literate and university-educated, workers and highly skilled craftsmen, high school students and university students, skilled singers and those who couldn't carry a tune, jokers and serious-minded individuals. From all our nations and religions: Muslims, Croats, Serbs, Jews, Orthodox Christians, Catholics, Muslims, Jews, atheists, and semi-atheists. Some were from straight from Mostar and others from the surrounding locations, from Konjic and outside Konjic.\" (Hercegovina Magazine No. 7, p. 238)\r\n\r\nGroups of new fighters arrived from Mostar every 10-15 days, and the Unit quickly grew into a solid military force. The guides for the groups from Mostar were Mehmed Arap, Vasa Maslo, Serif Buri\u0107, Husa Orman, Vojo Ivani\u0161evi\u0107, and Pero Krajina, who were among the bravest and most resourceful fighters. The groups regularly brought not only weapons but also medical supplies, sugar for the hospital, writing materials, large quantities of paper, books taken from the National Library (which formed the library at Borci), and other supplies for the needs of the Unit.
