\u0160AMILA \u0160ANA BILI\u0106, daughter of OSMAN, born on June 3, 1921, in Mostar. She was a worker at the Tobacco Factory in Mostar. She was a pre-war member of the League of Communist Youth (SKOJ) and Communist Party of Yugoslavia (KPJ), serving as the secretary of the KPJ cell since 1940. In June 1941, she was together with a group of girls (Tanja Pe\u0161ko<\/a>, Fadila Bilal, Emina-Mina Ha\u0107am<\/a>, Sonja Mili\u0107evi\u0107) at a secret meeting in a pine forest on Hum, where they discussed how to establish a women’s organization. She joined the National Liberation Army and Partisan Detachments in March 1942 for Eastern Herzegovina and worked at the Operational Staff for Herzegovina. She was a fighter. During the Chetnik coup in May 1942, she was captured by the Muslim militia (“\u0107ati\u0107evci”) in Podvele\u017eje. After that, she lived underground in Mostar, where she was killed in 1943 (according to one source, at the end of 1942).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u0160amila was an older sister of the fallen fighter E\u0161refa Bili\u0107 Zbrojevka<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“\u0160emsudin Dizdar went to Mostar not only as a liaison but to learn about the organization and events in Herzegovina. By the decision of the members of the KPJ Mostar group, Luka Kurili\u0107 and Dr. Vlado Jokanovi\u0107 with his son Ognjen were sent to Mostar due to exhaustion, and Mustafa Bali\u0107 due to night blindness, with Ljubo Nikoli\u0107 appointed as their guide. All the others set out the next day towards the Konji\u010dki battalion. When they crossed Brasina and Prijevorac, around noon, the column was attacked by members of the Usta\u0161e militia called ‘\u0107ati\u0107evci.’ On that occasion, the following individuals were killed: HILMIJA BABOVI\u0106, a worker from Trebinje, ASIM BU\u0106, a peasant from Bivolje Brdo near \u010capljina, and ALIJA ULAKOVI\u0106, a peasant from Bivolje Brdo near \u010capljina. Until the formation of the 13th Herzegovina Brigade in May 1944, 827 fighters passed through the Battalion, and 445 of them perished, including 211 from Mostar. Of the 86 women, 43 were killed. Mostar residents also fought in many other units of the NOVJ (People's Liberation Army of Yugoslavia) and among the ranks of the activists of the National Liberation War in Mostar and other cities in Bosnia and Herzegovina... According to the records of the organization SUBNOR Mostar, every third citizen was an activist of the National Liberation War, 670 fighters were killed, 1517 were victims of fascist terror, and 206 were civilian war victims. D\u017eemil \u0160arac, article \"Sa Mostarcima\" (\"With the People from Mostar\"), Hercegovina No. 9, p. 221.\r\n\r\n\"And we were all young. Those of us who were 17, 18 years old, some seemed old even though they were not older than 25. The ones over 30 were rare. There were girls and boys with different characteristics and temperaments, robust and calm, talkative and silent, recklessly brave and rational, ordinary and above-average, semi-literate and university-educated, workers and highly skilled craftsmen, high school students and university students, skilled singers and those who couldn't carry a tune, jokers and serious-minded individuals. From all our nations and religions: Muslims, Croats, Serbs, Jews, Orthodox Christians, Catholics, Muslims, Jews, atheists, and semi-atheists. Some were from straight from Mostar and others from the surrounding locations, from Konjic and outside Konjic.\" (Hercegovina Magazine No. 7, p. 238)\r\n\r\nGroups of new fighters arrived from Mostar every 10-15 days, and the Unit quickly grew into a solid military force. The guides for the groups from Mostar were Mehmed Arap, Vasa Maslo, Serif Buri\u0107, Husa Orman, Vojo Ivani\u0161evi\u0107, and Pero Krajina, who were among the bravest and most resourceful fighters. The groups regularly brought not only weapons but also medical supplies, sugar for the hospital, writing materials, large quantities of paper, books taken from the National Library (which formed the library at Borci), and other supplies for the needs of the Unit.
