SLAVKO BALA\u0106, son of NIKOLA, born on January 27, 1914, in Vrlika near Knin. Shoemaker, “often unemployed,” football player for FC Vele\u017e. Member of the Communist Party of Yugoslavia (KPJ) since 1937, prominent trade unionist and member of the Inter-Industry Committee, one of the lecturers at the Workers’ Home for a wider circle of female workers and housewives. After the demonstrations in September 1940 in Mostar, he was taken to the Lepoglava camp. In the same group, the following were arrested: Nikola Abramovi\u0107 Bjelica<\/a>, Mustafa Bjelavac<\/a>, Rade Bitanga<\/a>, Mustafa Alajbegovi\u0107, Smajo Brki\u0107, Hasan Kreso<\/a>, Slavko Bala\u0107<\/a>, Luka Kne\u017ei\u0107<\/a>. In the second group, the following were arrested: Mustafa Humo<\/a>, Velija Hujdur<\/a>, Vasilije To\u0161i\u0107<\/a>, Mile \u0106e\u0107ez<\/a>, Ljubo Ajvaz<\/a>, Rade Majstorovi\u0107<\/a>, and Rudolf Hrozni\u010dek<\/a>. The Usta\u0161e transferred him to the Gospi\u0107 camp* on July 19, 1941, where he was killed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Three of Slavko’s brothers were killed in the People’s Liberation War: Natko Bala\u0107<\/a>, \u0110or\u0111o Bala\u0107<\/a>, and Boro Bala\u0107<\/a>. A street in Mostar is named after the Bala\u0107 brothers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
